The pains of growing up |
 |
| Gosh – as if you don’t have enough to go through as a teen anyway…you come out in spots, you have your first crush (usually on the wrong boy), your emotions are all over the place, you have to learn to deal with your periods, plus the fact, your body is growing out of proportion,…which can be quite painful. These “growing pains” are around mostly at night, as that is when you grow the most but you can also hurt during the day, especially during and after sports. |

Growing pains can be real pain! They’re not serious but not much fun either. They’re most common in ten to eleven year olds but younger and older girls can suffer from them. The pains are not constant. They come and go. They are a dull, achy pain. They are often felt behind the knee, in the thigh or along the shin. They can also be in your arms, shoulders, back, groin, ankles, nearly everywhere really.
Doctors don’t really know what causes growing pains and they don’t need special medical treatment as they eventually go away on their own. Until they do, try massaging the area or use a hot water bottle to sooth it or try a non-aspirin pain tablet. If the pain is severe or doesn’t go away, see your doctor to make sure it isn’t due to something more serious. |
