FEM FACT: Hormones and heredity cause acne. MISS MYTH: It's okay to have a "healthy base tan". FEM FACT: There's no such thing as a healthy tan - base or otherwise. If you're going to bare your buns (or any part of you) to the sun, wear sunscreen or block with at least a SPF (sun protection factor) of 15. MISS MYTH: Perfumes with pheromones will help attract guys. FEM FACT: Humans aren't capable of detecting pheromones in scents. There isn't enough evidence yet to determine if these perfumes work MISS MYTH: You can get cancer from using a cell phone. FEM FACT: There's no real evidence that cell phones cause cancer. Cell phone use can be hazardous while driving. You're four times as likely to get into a car accident while talking on a cell phone. MISS MYTH: Putting aspirin and eye drops on a hickey will get rid of it faster. FEM FACT: There's no fast way to heal a hickey. Try hiding the hickey under you shirt collar, a scarf, or a turtleneck. MISS MYTH: Diet pills are good for losing weight. FEM FACT: Diet pills only work while you're taking them, and they all have side effects. Dieting during adolescence can cause permanent damage. Weight loss that occurs while dieting is almost always put back on within a year (plus some pounds). |
