In general, females of many species tend to be choosier when picking a mate. One theory is that females have a limited number of eggs and males produce millions of sperm. A less scientific theory is that women have better judgement. :)
Here's a list of behaviours - good and bad - and where they also exist in the animal planet.
He's so Vain.
You know the guy. He spends more time in front of the mirror than you. During courting the peacock spreads his colourful tail feathers and struts his stuff to attract his mate.
He's such a dog.
Your guy left you for someone else. Dogs will mate with any other dog breeds just because he can.
Mr. Mom.
The stay-at-home dad is an increasingly common animal. It's always been the way for the Emperor Penguin. After the female lays the egg, she goes off to feed. The male spends the next 9 weeks keeping the egg warm. By the time the female returns, he's lost about a third of his body weight!
Gross Out!
Your boyfriend has some really disgusting habits. Spotted Hyenas mark their territory with secretions from their anal glands. They squat over grass and twigs and paste the smelly stuff on them.
Fight for Your Honour.
Your boyfriend will fight to defend you. Animal courtships often involve males fighting over females. Fights between male rhinos are so violent that one often ends up dead.
